Robbinsdale is currently accepting applications for one full-time Police Officer. Candidates must be eligible for license by the Minnesota POST Board no later than November 1, 2010. The 2010 starting wage is $20.33/hour, plus benefits. Top wage of $31.27/hour after 3 years of service. Additional college incentive pay after 1 year up to 9%.

•Must have a valid and unrestricted driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

•Must possess a physical condition satisfactory to fulfill the duties of the position as determined by a physician of the City’s choice.

•Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation and physical examination, to include drug testing.

Position Objective: General duty Police work involving enforcement of laws and ordinances of the City of Robbinsdale and State of Minnesota, the maintenance of general order in the City, and the performance of a variety of public relations duties. Work is performed in accordance with Department Rules and Regulations and consists of routine patrol, investigative, or traffic enforcement duties. Work involves variety of work shifts and includes working on holidays and weekends. Work occasionally involves personal danger. Officers must exercise good judgment in dealing with emergency situations and must be able to act without direct supervision. An Officer’s work is assisted by special instructions from Department supervisors who review work methods and results through reports, observations, and discussion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Involves responsibility of performing a variety of informational and public relations duties relative to maintaining general order and a peaceful community.
•Involves answering emergency calls regarding felonies, misdemeanors, other crimes and complaint, medical emergencies, and auto accidents. 
•Officer makes arrests, issue citations, transport prisoners to jail, interrogate suspects, interview witnesses, and testify in Court.
•Patrols the City in a Police vehicle to preserve law and order, prevent crime, discover the commission of a crime, apprehend criminals, enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, and enforce parking regulations.
•Provides a variety of information pertaining to the City and surrounding areas, gives directions, advises where to obtain requested information, and answers questions from the public.
•Helps maintain a peaceful community by responding to routine and emergency calls for service including domestic violence complaints, loitering complaints, animal complaints, noise complaints, medical emergencies, and attempts to prevent potential trouble situations.
•Conducts detailed and thorough investigations of criminal offenses including burglaries, thefts, robberies, assaults and other crimes; makes arrests when appropriate; searches for evidence at crime scenes or protects crime scenes and evidence; takes photographs; conducts interviews and interrogations; assists victims and their families; and prepares reports required by the Department.
•Performs work as the “Officer in Charge” when assigned.
•Performs other assignments such as school patrol, child safety, juvenile liaison at the school(s), DARE, foot patrol, etc.
•Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as may be required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
•Knowledge of the general Statutes, Ordinances, and regulations pertaining to Police work.
•Working knowledge of the problems and techniques employed in developing effective community and public relations.
•Working knowledge of firearms and first-aid procedures.
•Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
•Ability to cope with a variety of crisis and non-crisis situations firmly but with courtesy, tact, and respect for citizens’ rights.
•Ability to learn and apply modern Police techniques and procedures, principles of investigation and interrogation, and applicable laws and ordinances.
•Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine the proper course of action.
•Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
•Ability to speak and write effectively.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
•Must possess the necessary physical strength and agility, good general intelligence, and emotional stability sufficient to meet Police-required duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Training and Experience:
Previous experience as a Police Officer.

Supervision of Others:
In absence of Sergeant, as “Office-in-Charge”, must supervise a shift.

Responsible for Public Contact:
Extensive public contact. Must deal with the public both courteously and firmly.

Work Environment:
Office and field environment. Requires working both outdoors and indoors in various environmental conditions. Also may occasionally work in or near heat, cold, and hazardous substances. Extensive sitting in squad car.

Essential Physical Requirements:
The physical demands are those encountered while performing the listed essential functions. Normal vision needed with or without correction. Must be able to effectively communicate both written and orally with the public. Must be able to move about freely on public and private property, this includes climbing stairs or walking on uneven surfaces. Must be able to bend and move about in tight spaces. Must be able to handle objects, to grasp, turn, or otherwise use hands. Must be able to lift at all levels and up to 90 pounds in some cases.

Paid on Call Firefighters WANTED!

The Robbinsdale Fire Department is currently seeking applicants for the position of paid on call firefighter. The department is looking to hire new members that can respond to fire calls during the daytime hours of 6AM to 6PM Monday to Friday.
All applicants must reside or be employed full time at an established business within a 2 mile radius of the Robbinsdale Fire Station. If you are a community orientated, motivated individual, that is physically fit, over the age of 18 with a High School Diploma or GED and a valid Minnesota Drivers License you may have a future in firefighting.
