The City of Robbinsdale has a housing maintenance code, which requires systematic inspection of all rental property. All rental properties require a license and must be inspected. The City of Robbinsdale also has a point of sale inspection requirement that applies to all owner-occupied and rental properties of three or fewer units.

A rental dwelling license is required by the City for all rental dwellings. The license verifies that the property is registered for occupancy and has met the minimum requirements set forth by the City for rental units. The major requirement for licensing is that the property is inspected for health and safety concerns and that all corrections are completed. Rental properties that change owners or are becoming rentals from owner-occupied residences will require an initial inspection and attendance by the new owner to a Rental Property Owner's Orientation (call Rick Pearson at 763-531-1266 for more information on the required orientation.)

Each rental property must apply for a license every two years.

Once the Rental Dwelling License Application and proper fee is received an inspection is scheduled.   Violations discovered by the inspection will be cited and the owner given a timetable for corrections, depending upon the seriousness of each violation. Once corrections are made , and all fees paid, a standard operating license will be issued.

Dwellings licensed under the Rental Housing Program must still be inspected prior to sale even if they were inspected during the present license period.

Every new owner must re-apply for a new license.
